DaleReynolds24 defends 2008 win with 2009 win!
Twenty Two BRAVE Nuffers came out for
the Toyota Save Mart 350 at Infineon!! Not only
that....both tracks enjoyed long green flag runs and
minimal cautions....WOOHOOO!!! Let's hear from your
2009 Winna DaleReynolds !!!
"WHAT A RACE FOLKS! As the late great Benny Parsons
would say “Man oh MAN!” What a race it was. And given
the well-known
fear that people had for running a road course race,
many were not looking forward to this race. The
seemingly difficult task to make right handed turns
haunts many of the best racers. “You have to turn the
wrong way” Dale Earnhardt Sr. used to say.
But as many as there are that hate turning right, there
are those that love to turn right. And the one that knew
how to turn right as well as left better than anyone
else in the 2009 running of the Toyota Save Mart 350 for
the Nuff Racing League was Mr. ThiZZliViD.
ThiZZ, formerly known as Reaper (which is how I will
refer to him as in this article, since I don’t want to
keep having to spell his new name) was simply
OUTSTANDING! He was the only one running in the 1 minute
and 10 second bracket the whole weekend. So with no
surprise he seemed to be a fan favorite to win this
race. Winning the pole position was just a
re-enforcement of how strong he is.
With Reaper on the pole and 2007 winner of this event,
Abbotttazz on his outside, (inside? Can we get an
official ruling on this?) the race looked to be full of
the same guys that were fast here last time around. The
defending 2008 winner DaleReynolds was starting 3rd and
another “ringer” the gift star ted fourth. Everyone get
out your blankies, this ones gonna be a snoozefest
right? Only the 4 same guys are going to duel it out?
HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!
The race started out with a few cautions right off the
bat. Yup, here we go with people that can’t keep it on
the track right? Wrong. After the 2nd caution of the
race, Chucke disconnected due to him already having BAD
lag… “His hind wheel was in my windshield!” Exclaimed Abbottazz. What a shame too. Chuck’s elusive first win,
again, must come another day.
But after the disconnect, there was great racing by
everyone! Kapalua led early through the first 2
cautions. On about lap 20 or so, thegift
took the lead with Dale right behind him. Gift led for a
few laps before handing it over to defending winner
DaleReynolds. Dale led for a while, but little did he
know at the time, Reaper was cruising his way through
the pack. Once Dale got to the lead, Reaper simply let
the car stretch its legs and caught and passed Dale with
ease, erasing a 3 and a half second deficit in just over
2 laps?!
Reaper led pretty much most of the race then on, unless
having to give it up on pit road and others staying out.
Nobody else was simply fast enough to catch Reaper. Dale
and Abbott ran 2nd and 3rd most of the race, which was
very clean given the fact that it was a road course. And
it wasn’t just one person. Even Dale caused a simple
caution after spinning out in the esses in the middle of
the race. But the cautions were ag ain very minimal given
the track they were on.
It looked as though Reaper would walk away with this
one. Dale pitted with 25 laps to go and had his mind set
that he was not stopping for anything the rest of the
race. Everything was falling his way. Reaper was on
older tires and handed the lead to Dale with about 10
laps to go. But low and behold, this IS a road course
race after all!
xXmacklinXx (aka Kmack, which is how I will refer to him
here too) spun out, bunching up the field. Dale did not
pit, but Reaper, Abbottazz and Donald24 who is also a
good road racer himself came in for fresh tires. The
green flag came out with 7 laps to go and immediately
going up the hill, I believe Kelley spun out causing
another caution flag. Reaper and the “Fresh Tire Gang”
gained one spot with that. Reaper now sat in 4th place.
The green flag came out with 4 to go and this time they
got to turn 3 when Reaper spun out trying to get around
Kmack. That put the fastest car in the back of the field
with only 2 laps to go. But low and behold, not having
shown anything as impressive as Reaper the whole night,
Mr. Abbotttazz had a smile on his face. He smelled the
blood in the water as he had fresh tires and Dale was
still out on his 23 lap old tires.
The green flag flew and it almost seemed like the race
would go all the way home without another caution, which
was awesome new for Abbotttazz as he could smell what
Dale had for breakfast this morning, he was so close.
But then the attempt was short lived as the caution flag
was thrown for a spin in the back of the pack just
before they got to the top of the esses!
DaleReynolds24 did it again.
Dale
successfully defended his 2008 win, and his reputation
as either a strategial beast or just a lucky
mothertrucker by winning the 2009 Toyota Savemart 350 in
similar fashion as he did in 2008 when he played the
strategy game and Abbottazz (ironically) who was 2nd
until a miscue to come into the pits on the last caution
let Dale go on to win with Gift hovering down his back.
Dale is now un-defeated in his 3 career points-paying
road course races, as he also won the 2008 Centrion
Boats @ The Glen last year.
Abbotttazz came in 2nd again and his first 2009 win must
wait later in the season. Kmack finishes third, also
keeping up his stance as a decent road racer! Kelley,
who said he was going to bring his grill and just watch
the race from pit road wound up 4th with a great finish.
Rounding out the top 5 was Walt Hamrick with a good run.
The rest of the top 10 was TURBOTODD, Donald2424, Mwils,
Reaper, who unfortunately spun and Kapula, who finished
with a DNF after his motor grenaded with 35 laps to go.
Mwils was shown with a 6th place finish, but he was
unable to serve his black flag at the end of the race,
moving himself willingly back to the last car on the
lead lap. Reaper disconnected during the green white
checkered.
TheGift suffered EA glitches again and he willingly
disconnected himself from the room after about 45 laps
to finish 11th in the room. Sabloo, UltimateASSIN and
Chucke all disconnected early to finish 12th 13th and
14th respectively.
WHAT A CRAZY FINISH! And here we are off to New
Hampshire next weekend for the Lenox Industrial Tools
