Daytona 500 Abstract
“Strap the big T.V. down, she’s gonna go for a ride”
- Darrell Waltrip, 2008 Daytona 500
Nobody knows how to handle it. Nobody truly knows how to expect
it, and when to expect it. We all want it and dream it but yet
nobody truly can fathom what it is like.
Every new season brings new questions. Each passing race, a
question is answered in a small piece of the puzzle. The long
and complex 2009 NRL season puzzle that will take close to 10
months to complete.
The season closes and just like that it’s back to work. Many new
faces attempt to prove themselves. Many veterans attempt to beat
the other to win the biggest single-day prize.
The 2.5 mile stretch known as the Daytona International Speedway
has become synonymous with history. Last year, unknown rookie
DaleReynolds stole the show, outlasting veteran Bustersnm on
fuel to win the Daytona 500 in his very first attempt in the
race, as well as his first points-paying NRL event.
What about the year before that? Coming from handling troubles
in the Budweiser Shootout and most of speed weeks, Abbottazz
found his way in winning the inaugural Daytona 500. Unknown
then, Abbottazz would become the 2 time defending champion.
Who will win the 500 this year? Many vie for the one to be the
person to hold the Harley J. trophy at the end of that February
day, but only one can be accepted within Daytona’s victory
gates. Abbottazz and DaleReynolds, NRL’s answer to the Dale
Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon “frienemy” relationship, will be
looking to become a 2-time Daytona 500 winner. But what about
the likes of Bustersnm, iJeremy, or even Cableman or Reaper,
top-tier drivers that have not won the big one yet. How about
Kmack, Deucy, Mwils, Tellin, BigMike or Seven, who are perfectly
capable of running into the same situation that fell into Dale’s
lap last year? Maybe TripleX, DarkShaman, Flame or
Powerfulshitzu can come in and steal the show.
With a new season, new questions arise. With each passing race,
one more question to the puzzle will be solved.
The first piece, the biggest piece, the Daytona 500 piece,
awaits.
