2009 NRL Sprint Cup Series Race to the Chase Points Outlook

I'm back again, just like I was last year with this dang thing! Seeing as how Richmond is merely 4 days away, I am going to break down the points system as it lays heading into Richmond to seal the fate for those who wish to make the Chase!

I will break everything down, including giving you guys a position update from your 2008 to 2009 season!

Starting off, after cruising the old website and seeing the 2008 standings, 2008 wasn't nearly as tight as this year! Obviously only the top 12 would have made it last year, but this time around the NRL bumped it up to 14! WHOO HOO

Some facts you must understand about this proceedure...195. 195 is the magical number as to the max amount of points you can gain on someone on a single event. Knowing that, follow me as I whip out the fawkin calculator again hehe

AND THIS IS ALL ASSUMING THAT NOBODY WILL MOVE INTO THE CHASE ONCE IT STARTS. So eliminate that fact and/or variable right now and invision it like the real Chase where once your locked in, your locked in and can't be removed.

Looking at the top 18 drivers in the standings as of right now, doing some math here...

It looks like only Purity and Dart88 are the only two that can have the ability to move into the top 14 if their race goes well. The more interesting fact is that Kapalua is only 2 POINTS locked OUT of Chase eligibility. Big Mike has 2132 points to Kap's 1935. 2132-1935=197. Even if Big Mike does not race or pre-qual and Kap leads the most laps and wins, he will miss the 14th slot by 2 points, and that's not counting if Purity and/or Dart run well and block Kap's "leapfrog" from 17th spot.

I'm also happy to announce that everyone from 1st to 11th can go into Richmond without worrying, because they locked themselves into Chase contention! That means 12th to 16th are the Chase Bubble. Anyone more than 195 points ahead of Purity in 15th is locked in. Purity's 2080 points + 195 = 2275 points.
12th is TripleX. Triple has 2269 points. Triple can pre-qual or just start the race and grenade on the first lap and he's in the Chase, because you get 25 points to pre-qual and of a 43 car field (which I doubt will happen here) the minimum points is 34, both of which would put him over the 2275 points needed to be safe.

13th is Scoutchuck with 2217 points. Scoutchuck with the 2275 needed to be safe, he needs 58 points to make the Chase. Again, a very likely possibility of making the Chase. In perspective, Scout would need to finish 35th in the final results earn the 58 points without getting bonus points to lock in.

14th place is Big Mike. Big Mike has ONLY a 52 point gap over Purity. He has 2132 points and in order for him to make the 2275 mark, he needs 143 points to be sure he's locked in. 143 points is a 7th place finish with no bonus points, 8th place with 5 bonus points or 9th with 10 bonus points to seal his deal in the 2009 Chase.

Purity is 15th. Like with Big Mike, If Purity goes and wins the race and leads the most laps, he cannot have Big Mike finish better than 9th in the final standings. Purity is 52 points behind Big Mike's mark.

Dart88 is the last of the eligible contenders for the Chase in 16th spot. Dart is 176 points behind Big Mike. The hill is extremely steep to climb but it is possible. In order for Dart to make the Chase, he would have to go out and get the maximum of 195. But Big Mike must not even race. IF Big Mike pre-quals on Friday for the race, he locks Dart out of the Chase. If Big Mike does not race, Dart must win the race, or finish 2nd with most laps led to sweep around Big Mike. But if Purity also races and Big Mike doesn't, that ends Dart's chances because Purity only needs 52 points, which essentially is a 37th place finish to seal the deal and keep Dart at bay.

It's going to be exciting here folks as we see who is going to be able to run well and seal their Chase fate! With this in mind, I'm going to also bring to you your 2008/2009 Points Differential after this race last year... It will go in order of points this year, then in parenthesis your spot last year and your gain or loss at this time last year. Just to kind of look back on things a bit, see how far you have come...or gone lmao. There is a LOT of new faces this year!

At this time last year, only 3 were on the bubble heading into Richmond. SEVEN SYNZ, Kmack and ADMIN4LIFE were the only ones able to switch it up at Richmond in 2008, with the result that Kmack and SEVEN would stay in the chase as ADMIN did not race. Can this have an idea as how this Chase will boil down to after Richmond? WHO KNOWZZZ???

You don't have to look it up because I already did (hate Bill Weber or not, I actually like that saying, so AMMO use it). All the stats and statistics you could possibly want, and be thankful that I love all the numbers part because you wouldn't be seeing me doing this sh!t otherwise if I didnt hehehe.
