at Richmond !!

Three IROC Races…Three Different Winners!!

On a nice calm Saturday Afternoon…. 8 Nuffers got together for the Third IROC race of the 08 IROC Special Invite Series!!! Richmond was the host to this efficient race….which took less than an hour over 100 laps. Though Richmond is a tough short track…especially on tires…there were only 3 cautions…that I can remember… as the Nuffers racing in this one really showed why they were added to this special event. The shortage in cautions resulted in some looooonnnnggg green runs…and with the “Pit Under Green Only” rule in effect….this one was all about strategy.

The best strategist of the day went to Mr BigMike….who waited till the second half of the race before he went in to pit. Not only that…..but the Mikester made no adjustments…. “Just give me some new tires and I’m outta here”…. Those new tires proved to be the difference as BigMike was able to take advantage of the final caution of the day….and easily slip by the rest of the pack….all running on worn tires…to cruise on in for a very impressive victory!!! Very Very Nice BigMike !!! CONGRATS !!!

The big story in this one was the 2^nd and 3^rd cautions of the race. At the time of the 2^nd caution…most of the racers had already pitted and were trying to make up laps to BigMike….who just kept running and running and running…..lol. “Can he make it all the way without pitting?” asked Mwils. “Nah…he has to get some fuel sooner or later” replied Jeremy. Well that caution with BigMike at least 1 lap up on most of the field….benefited because

Only one Nuffer picked up the “Lucky Dog” while everyone else would be trapped still a lap down.

Finally Mike went in to Pit and Abbott….running strong as usual…was able to take over the lead. Mike got in and out so fast he only lost 1 lap to Abbott and his task was to try to catch Abbott with about 30 laps to go. But with fresh tires…who knows. Welll….Mike got a big break on the last caution. It gave Mike the Lucky Dog and while all the rest of the field remained stuck down at least a lap…Mike and his new tires promptly caught and slid past Abbot for the lead and the victory. “He’s gone” Said Abbott. “Man I don’t think he would have caught me if we stayed green….but that last caution gave Mike what he needed”

Abbott was the only Nuffer to finish on the lead lap…taking 2^nd place while Buster outlasted Jeremy to round off the top 3.

Again thanks to all those who came out. The NRL has been so busy since the start of the new NRL Nextel 08 series….it really shows the quality and caliber of my vets. You guys are here through thick and thin. Now That’s HOT !!!!!
